Thanks for the Support.. And another triplets question

There are a lot of multiples and triplets parents reading our blog- Thanks for the support. I’m into so many groups on yahoo and now just found one called the Triplet Connection. You can post messages and read other peoples questions and comment on them. I have received lots of great comments and suggestions from parents of multiples. Thank you to all of you!
Here is my question for today:
How have other triplets’ moms out there handled bottle feeding ?
I have heard some people say they prop their babies up and feed them– this sounds scary ! Whats the best way to feed them and how did you do it?

We propped too. Wwe have 20 month old triplets and a 3 year old. We had help, but it does seem like all you do is feed and burp and change diapers for a while. Ours were 29 weekers and it took a while before they could be propped, but when they were ready we propped some or all depending on which feeding.
We used boppies some, but liked using swings and bouncies also.

if you do decide to prop, there are several designs for sale of bottle prop aids- one of them looks like a hair scrunchie with beans to weight the bottem & its filled with cotton to form a sort of pillow-the inner circle has elastic to hold the bottle in place- you might could make them yourself if you are crafty- there is also a pillow/bib prop set up that can be bought either online or @ burlington-my nurse from the nicu used them for her own triplets-
i didnt prop the bottles for mine- i propped the babies of sorts- always support their heads-a rolled towel or a feather pillow(its very malleable & can be bunched up to fit the babies necks easily) before trying to feed more than one @ a time-
you can also line up boppies on the floor around you, put blankets on top of them to form a hammock of sorts, and lay each baby in the center-use the head support donuts to support the bottles if you need to- there is really only need to prop one bottle for one baby-the other two can be held by the parent/caregiver- you can also feed 2 at the same time by placing their bouncy seats on the floor on either side of you and hold one bottle in each hand for each baby-
you are going to find that its rare that all 3 have to eat @ the same time- you will sometimes find it time consuming-some babies slow down purposefully when the other is anxious(i have a drama queen baby) and others will get jealous sometimes- but youre going to find that they learn patience out of necessity really quickly!
you will be ok! its just hard to fathom til you have to do it! remember the nicu nurses are YOUR FRIENDS and can help you get them on their schedule & keep it that way (beware the well meaning ones that decide they are doing you a favour by deviating from the schedule everyone else follows- THATS not something you want the babies to get used to!)
sorry so long winded! hope some of it helps!

Have you looked for “Podee Hands Free Baby Bottles”??? There are a ton of them on Ebay that are new in the package. Just type go to the baby category and type in Podee and they will pop up. They are kind of expensive but it will probably be worth it!

Hi
We propped our kids up after a while without any problems. I wouldn’t recommend the Podee Hands Free Baby Bottles, as we got one and even I couldn’t suck hard enough to get the milk to flow through.
The tricky bit is keeping track of whose bottle is whose and how much each baby has drunk. We marked their bottles with their initials and had a board on the wall to monitor where the hell we were up too. This was particularly useful when the kids needed medicine as otherwise it was just to easy to forget who had been given what, when.

to keep the bottles straight as to which is which baby’s, and who gets what meds when, buy 5 sets of three multi-colored bottles-gerber makes em in blue, yellow & purple- assign each baby a color & stick with it! you will eventually figure out the medicine intervals and you should correspond the meds times with the bottles(we were told to put the meds in the bottles by the nicu) ok, here is the tricky part- you will line the bottles up in three rows of 5 each, fill them with the formula- then do your meds- each color=a seperate baby- you are going to line them up & keep up with the order as you place each set into the fridge- you will take them out from either left to right or right to left-
you will find that you feed your kids every 4 hours & some meds will be given every four hours- or every 8-you will dose each bottle accordingly & place them in the fridge in the order to be used-
sounds complicated, but i did it for a year & it worked fine- sorry if its a bit confusing!

Don’t be afraid to prop the bottles. We used boppies for them to lay on (make sure the boppy is not flat) and blankets to prop the bottles, but you must watch them constantly.
I am the mother of 15 month old triplet girls who took care of them by myself during the day with no help.
It takes about 20 minutes for the baby to drink the formula so if you feed one baby at a time, it can take you almost an hour which leaves little time to burp, change diapers and prepare for the next feeding.
With propping bottles, i fed all 3 at the same time. I was definitely scared to prop at first but it worked out well.
